Announcing the appointment of Wei Guo as the next Controller

I am pleased to announce Wei Guo will serve as the next Controller for the University of Alaska. Wei’s education, experience, and competencies will serve her well in this new role. 

Ms. Guo holds a Master of Accounting from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Ms. Guo is also a licensed CPA in the State of Alaska with more than 20 years of relevant experience.

Prior to her time at UA, Ms. Guo spent 11 years at public accounting firms where she was responsible for planning and supervising audits of business entities, non-profit organizations, and local governments.

Since December 2012, Guo served as the Director of Financial Accounting for the University of Alaska. In this role, she was responsible for the accurate preparation and presentation of the annual audited financial statements in conformity with standards issued by GASB; the Education Trust of Alaska’s audited financial statements in conformity with standards issued by FASB; and the schedules necessary to support the State of Alaska annual comprehensive financial report. 

In addition, Ms. Guo was responsible for facilitating communication between external auditors and various accounting and finance offices throughout the UA system; oversight of the accounting process and internal controls; implementation of new accounting standards; and the supervision of employees within the Fund Accounting department. 

As Controller, Wei will serve as the UA system’s chief accounting and financial reporting officer and will have oversight of the system office budget, cash management, cost analysis, financial systems, and fund accounting. 

Wei has demonstrated a long-term commitment to the University of Alaska, and during her time with UA she has made a measurable impact on its financial operations. Please join me in congratulating Wei Guo on this new appointment and expanded leadership role.
