Did You Know UAS Marine Science and Environmental Biology programs have been nationally ranked?
Did you know that University of Alaska Southeast Marine Science and Environmental Biology programs have been nationally ranked as some of the best and most affordable in the country? UAS offers undergraduate degrees in both marine biology and fisheries. The recognitions have noted the access that UAS undergraduate students have to hands-on education, internships, and research opportunities. Specifically:
- In January of 2020, College Values Online, an information source providing information on the college selection process that helps students choose a college, ranked UAS as one of the best values for a bachelor’s in marine biology degree program in the country. The ranking takes into account affordability, accreditation, and rankings in major publications like U.S. News and World Report.
- In July of 2020, Affordable Schools, an information site that makes it easy to search for affordable colleges by state, degree type or specific degree program, placed UAS at No. 3 on its list of the 15 most affordable environmental studies Bachelor's degree programs. The affordable cost of in-state tuition, a low student-faculty ratio, close interaction with experienced professors, research involvement, and internship connections were all factors in the ranking.
UAS is at the forefront of environmental change research. Students at UAS are uniquely positioned to monitor and document the rapid warming, deglaciation, and ecosystem changes occurring across the Circumpolar North, providing critical information on climate and ecosystem changes in the state and preparing them to join the research community after graduation.
