Since its launch in 1999, the UA Scholars Award has recognized Alaska’s top students, granting a $15,000 scholarship to the top 10% of graduates from each Alaska high school. The program has awarded scholarships to students from more than 200 high schools statewide, ensuring that opportunities for higher education reach every region of Alaska.
UA Scholars can be found across all three UA universities. They pursue degrees in diverse fields, including engineering, healthcare, education, and public service, contributing to Alaska’s economy and workforce.
The impact of the UA Scholars program is clear:
- 39% of Alaska’s top graduates choose UA, compared to just 10% before the program’s creation.
- UA Scholars have earned more than 7,600 degrees and certificates.
- Many scholars are first-generation college students, opening doors for future Alaskan leaders.
- The six-year graduation rate for UA Scholars is nearly double that of all first-time students.
The UA Scholars Award isn’t just about funding—it’s about connecting students to opportunities while strengthening Alaska’s future.
