Paul Reichardt grew up in the St. Louis area. He graduated from Davidson College in 1965 and received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in 1969 from the University of Wisconsin. After two years of post-doctoral work at Yale University and one year as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at The Ohio State University, he joined the Chemistry faculty at UAF in 1972. In 1991 he became dean of the college which is now CNSM. From 1998 until his retirement in 2007, he served as UAF’s Provost. As a faculty member, his teaching responsibilities focused on introductory and organic chemistry as well as supervision of graduate students. His research program in natural products and ecological chemistry was characterized by collaboration with many other scientists and resulted in over fifty scientific publications. As an administrator he was a participant in K-12 science education projects, represented UAF in The University of the Arctic, promoted the value of leadership training for academic administrators, and was a member of the commission that is responsible for accreditation of colleges and universities in the northwest United States.
