ROBERT L. SPURR Longtime Alaskan Robert Lyon Spurr, 58, died Aug. 11, 1995, at North Maroon Peak in Aspen, Colo., as a result of a mountaineering accident.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Arctic Valley Ski Chalet at Alpenglow. The Rev. Richard Gay will officiate. A run in his honor will take place before the service. Those wishing to participate should gather at the base of Arctic Valley Road at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Spurr was born July 19, 1937, in Middletown, Conn. He was a graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., received a bachelor's degree at Drew University in Madison, N.J., and master's degree in physics from Northeastern University in Boston. He did additional postgraduate work at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Mr. Spurr came to Alaska in 1965 and lived in Fairbanks from 1969 to 1971. He was employed at Alaska Methodist University from 1965 to 1975, Anchorage Community College from 1976 until its merger with the University of Alaska Anchorage, and UAA until the present.

He was a member of the American Alpine Club. He enjoyed researching future and documenting present running and climbing adventures. He also enjoyed mountaineering, mountain running, snowshoeing, nordic skiing, bird-watching and watching the career of Wayne Gretzky.

His family said: ''He was a dedicated husband, father, mountaineer, runner and professional. He gave 100 percent effort to everything he did.''

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth Hatch Spurr of Anchorage; daughters and their husbands, Patricia Spurr Thompson and David of Brookline, Mass., and Judith Spurr Kopsack and Lance of Anchorage; son, Douglas Lyon Spurr of Anchorage; father, Jerome of Wellesley, Mass.; two brothers, Hugh of Wellesley and Malcolm of Grafton, Mass.; and many other relatives.
