UA has embraced intergenerational learning and made it core to its programs. Based on highly successful models of elder care and child care, we provide environments where youth and elders can support each others’ learning. Children help elders navigate shifting technological landscapes, while elders pass on vital cultural practices and traditions. Each UA campus has an integrated child/elder center with programming unique to the region, such as Alaska Native language immersion, and dance, music, and performance. These programs bring the elderly and youth together to strengthen community and social cohesion, and make UA a center of lifelong learning.
