Ambassador Mike Sfraga (ret.), a UAF alumnus who most recently served as the first U.S. ambassador-at-large to the Arctic, will lead UAF as interim chancellor.

Sfraga also previously served as chair of the U.S. Arctic Research Commission. He was the founding director of the Polar Institute and concurrently served as director of the Global Risk and Resilience Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C.

Sfraga’s career at the University of Alaska has spanned over 31 years. He worked for UAF and the UA system from 1985 through 2016 in a broad range of administrative, academic and executive positions.
