2009 Statewide Staff Campaign an Overwhelming Success!

Staff at the University of Alaska Statewide offices once again have exceeded everyone’s expectations. Over 70 percent of the UA Staff made charitable contributions to benefit students and programs at campuses around the State. This year’s campaign was the most successful ever.

The staff campaign was led by Chair Paloma Harbour who is a policy analyst in the Office of Planning and Budget. The campaign cabinet members included: Erica Fitchett, Linda Hall, Brandi Berg, Monique Musick, Izzy Martinez, James Milburn, Dory Straight and Karesa Frasure. Jennifer Hoppough was the Foundation staff person who worked closely with Paloma Harbour to execute this year’s record-high campaign.

The participation level illustrates how committed statewide staff are to preserving the many scholarships available to students attending UA. This spring over 3700 applications were processed for 636 scholarships. Some of the scholarships benefitted greatly from the staff campaign.

"The incredible generosity of statewide staff is certainly one reason why the university is such a wonderful place to work. When faced with meeting the challenge of 67 percent participation this year, they not only met it, but significantly exceeded it. I couldn't be prouder to work such caring people,” said Paloma Harbour following the campaign wrap up celebration.

President Hamilton expressed his great appreciation for his staff who have continually exceed his expectations every year. The true spirit of the statewide staff speaks loudly when many express their generosity every year by participating.

Pictured in this photo are Bess Rounds, a staff member in the President’s Office, and UAF’ Fire Department Captain Forrest Kuiper. One of the funds featured during the campaign is the Phil Rounds Memorial Scholarship. Chief Phil Rounds passed away in November 2008. The scholarship will be awarded to future UAF students who will major in Fire Science. Chief Rounds’ memory will continue to live on through all the lives he has touched as one of UAF’s Fire Department finest, including those who will benefit from receiving the scholarship.
