"Bob" Bartlett Documentary

Bob Bartlett had a modest background as a small town newspaper reporter, then editor and then gold miner in interior Alaska.  However, behind the humble and self-effacing manner, he possessed a gift of persuasion matched by few elected leaders before or since.  Capitalizing on his interpersonal skills, he forged a remarkable political career in Washington DC.  Bartlett's crowning achievement was spearheading the successful drive for Alaska statehood, but he also left a record of legislative success second to none.

The Bob Bartlett documentary builds on the work of KUAC's Emmy award-winning production, the 49th Star, which tells the story of the collective effort for statehood in Alaska.  In many ways Bob Bartlett's story is one of paradoxes.  KUAC seeks to tell the compelling and critical individual story of the architect of Alaska Statehood.
