Message from President Gamble
The University of Alaska is a formidable asset for the state of Alaska. Our robust university statewide campus system is fundamental to regional growth and economic development. The University of Alaska’s purpose is to inspire and motivate learning, critical thinking, citizenship, and to engage students in pursuing a broad array of knowledge through faculty teaching excellence and world class research. We must also remain in the forefront of public service. We shall continue our strong institutional emphasis on the North, learning from the fascinating lessons contained in its history, preserving the rich knowing ways and experiences of its native peoples, mastering its geophysical challenges, and capitalizing on the splendid opportunities it beckons us to address. These core competencies focus us on our mission and will always remain UA’s top academic and research priorities.
As a university system, the value we bring to Alaska depends on the quality of our graduates. Our formula for success combines a premier workforce development regimen at our community campuses, with an open college enrollment offering, to create an articulated path right up to and through baccalaureate education. In addition, we have incorporated world-class research opportunities for students at every level of study along the way. Remaining relevant today, within the high tempo environment created by technology throughout post-secondary education, will continue to require heavy lifting on the part of every one of us in order to meet and exceed student expectations. It is a real privilege to work alongside you in that endeavor.
Patrick K. Gamble
